New Design, Spring 2011

ruffled disc necklace, new design from adaptive reuse, christine terrell
I've been working with this new design, but don't yet really know how I feel about it. So far it's gotten really positive feedback from others, but it seems a bit outside my aesthetic. Plus, it feels a tad crazy to be spending so much time wonking out a bunch of discs. Usually I'm spending all sorts of time making everything nice and neat. It feels odd.

I was going to debut these at the Spring Fair today at Caffé Medici on the Drag, but instead I'm sitting here with a low-grade fever and a super sore throat. I hate laying around feeling sick, so instead I'm sitting up doing something and feeling sick. But I'm accomplishing a little bit, and it's at least mildly distracting from the pain of swallowing.

I'm always looking for apt names for my new designs, but "Wonky Discs" doesn't have much appeal. Not that I'm much of a farm girl, but they look like disc plows to me. However, I'm pretty sure that's not a particularly appealing visual analogy. I've also thought they remind me a bit of lupines or the flowers of a bottle brush plant, but neither is as visually similar. I need to call them something, even if it's just for my own reference. If you've got some suggestions, be sure to leave a comment.

The wonky discs are lovely!
They are going to be a hot item for sure.

Oh, and you can maybe call them 'ruffled discs' instead of wonky.

I like Liz's name for them. Ruffles/Ruffled discs is cute!

I like ruffled discs too. I also thought about smocking. For some reason they remind me a bit of that as well. Ruffles are more straightforward though. Too potato-chippy, maybe? I can't decide. . .

I love these! They are lovely...Why not make braclets too? Maybe treating a section of ruffled bits like a singular bead with a few of these "beads" going around the braclet?
