Blue Genie Art Bazaar

The Blue Genie Art Bazaar has been up and running for a couple of weeks now and I haven't had the time to mention how great it is this year. The BG folks have stepped it up yet again with more artists and more events.

Tonight (Thursday, Dec 16) is their Gala event with music, a full bar and, of course, lots of local art. Stop by between 6pm and midnight for some of the best holiday shopportunities in town! There is so much at the show this year I couldn't possibly mention everything that I love, but here are a few highlights:
Baby Bolt has really gone all out with the booth display and signage this year. Looks great and I love the clothes and accessories for kids that aren't all about ducks and bunnies.

I've been fascinated by Stephanie Strange's work for years now. She draws with old manual typewriters. It's too amazing to try to describe. You kinda have to see it in person. She also makes amazing sculptures from manual typewriter parts. I like her type.
I really love the whimsical work of Billy Ray and Beverly Mangham. Note the Pillsbury Dough Boy voodoo art.
Mike Merritt is making vessels I want to own. Of course, with two boys under the age of 10 in the house, it's not a wise investment.

Curious Customs is (I think!) new to the show this year. If you haven't yet found the perfect gift for someone out of town, this is it--beautiful lanterns and lamps that come flat packed. Using a mixture of craftsman and asian styled joinery, you can assemble the pieces in just a couple of minutes. They are fabulous!
