Creative Reuse Project

I posted less than a week ago my lament that Austin did not yet have an art supply thrift store in the vein of S.C.R.A.P. in San Francisco. It should come as no surprise then that due to the nature of how the world works, someone HAS been working on this very idea and they will be having an informational meeting on Thursday, November 5 at 7pm to discuss the opening of the Creative Reuse Project. If you're in Austin and interested, the meeting is open to the public. The info from their site:

When: Thursday November 5th, 2009 7pm
Where: The AAMP 411 Warehouse, 411 Monroe Street
Directions: Google map

Austin Creative Reuse is dedicated to fostering conservation and re-use through creativity, education and community building.

ACR will collect materials* from local businesses and individuals. These materials will be made available for purchase for artistic and re-purpose activities. In addition, these materials will be used in workshops and outreach programs that stimulate creativity and create awareness of conservation. We’ll collaborate with art teachers and art organizations to promote the use of these materials instead of purchasing new materials.

* Materials can include craft materials, art supplies, vintage goodies, and other unique items. We will collect clean, safe, reusable industrial discards as well as new, finished products that are no longer needed by businesses.

I can't make it to the meeting, but I'm very glad to hear this is happening. Can't wait to donate and shop there!
