This Would Never Happen in America

Once again, google alerted me to an interesting link featuring tins. When I clicked through, I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing. Andrea Garland's Natural Beauty Emporium is packaging beauty products in lovely vintage tins. And I'm not talking lip balm all encased in plastic and THEN placed inside a tin. I'm talking warm gooey lip balm poured directly into old tins. And from the looks of them, they really are vintage. She does specify that all the containers have been "washed and sterilised before they are filled." Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a bad thing. In fact, I love the fact that the British think nothing of this. She would probably be shut down in a heartbeat in this country. Or, no one would buy them because they were too squeamish about imagined dirt and germs. I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't think anyone would get away with it here.

Checking through the tins pictured on her site I'm reminded of how fabulous British and European tins really are. One article mentioned that she had 'sourced' these tins. If there is a 'source' out there reading this post, get in touch with me. I can't imagine she got this many fab tins from one person (unless it was me, and it wasn't) and I didn't think a 'source' for tiny vintage pill boxes and compacts actually existed. Shows you what I know.

I know! It makes me wish I made beauty products so I could package it in some of my tiny tins that I can't figure out how to use!

Brilliant! Love it! I think you're right, though, most Americans wouldn't go for it and I'm sure there's some law that would require the use of a plastic liner.
